The White Cube house is situated near the coast in Lennox Head. The client brief was clear and definite. It had to be a large house with generously proportioned rooms and plenty of storage. And it had to be white.
The house plan is inverted to take advantage of the coastal views to the north east of the site. The top floor comprises a large open plan living area and kitchen, terrace, master bedroom suite, office and guest bathroom, essentially providing single level living. The lower level contains guest accommodation, a media room, double garage and storage.
The materiality of the house reflects the client’s preferred aesthetic, but also the need for the building to be robust and low maintenance in this coastal location. Most surfaces are hard and white with little texture. This provides a blank canvas for the client’s furniture and gives prominence to the extensive landscape views.
